Elina Brotherus discusses her latest monograph, Artist and her Model (Le Caillou Bleu, 2012), with Sheyi Bankale.

I'm 40 years old now. Since my early photographs, more than 15 years ago, I have used myself as a model. It's a strange feeling to look back at the work done and to look at that young person I used to be. I am living now what was an unknown future for her. What has happened, what has changed? The apartments, the boyfriends; the face has grown older. The aesthetics of my photography have, nevertheless, remained the same. (Elina Brotherus, 2012)

Elina Brotherus (b. 1972, Finland) is one of the most accomplished photography and video artist of her generation. Current and forthcoming exhibitions include State of the Art, New Contemporary Photography (NRW-Forum Düsseldorf, Germany), Perhe Kuvassa (Finnish National Gallery - Ateneum Art Museum, Helsinki), Only Me Only You; Images of Love, Love of The Image (International Biennial of Photography and Visual Arts, Liège, Belgium) and Sense of Place, European Landscape Photography (Bozar, Palais des Beaux-Arts, Brussels).

Sheyi Bankale is the Editor and Founder of Next Level magazine, one Europe's leading art photography magazines. He is also the Curator of Next Level Projects, and the Publisher of Next Level books (distributed by Thames & Hudson). In 2011, he was a co-curator of Turku European Capital of Culture, Finland.
